   What in the singular may be no more than a mark of respect, interest, or good manners assumes sexual overtones in the plural:
    Jack Profumo... had become involved with a young lady who was also enjoying the attentions of the Soviet Military Attaché. (A. Clark, 1993the community of interest would have been less noteworthy if Profumo had not also been Minister of Defence)
