   Literally, a meeting face-to-face. Indonesia's 1963 confrontation with the fledgling state of Malaysia included subversion and armed incursions, the latter being repulsed with the help of the British (a debt now forgotten).
   The word is also used by terrorists of indiscriminate violence against society:
    Well for one thing we haven't ruled out the possibility of confrontation. (Theroux, 1976 — terrorists were discussing tactics)
